  • Notes
    • Richard of Normandy, Duke of Bernay. He was the second of four sons of William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy and Matilda of Flanders. Grandson of Richard I, Duke of Normandy and Herleve de Falasie, Baudouin V, Count of Flanders, Regent of France and Adele of France, the daughter of King Robert of France.

Born in 1054 in Normandy, Richard was a potential heir to the English throne, but died before his father in 1081 in a hunting accident in the 'New Forest' created by his father for royal hunts.

His father's kingdom was divided between his brothers, despite the bad blood between King William and Robert Curthose, until William Rufus was killed in a hunting accident in the same New Forest where Richard had died in the same manner twenty years before.

Richard died before he married, or had any children.
