Notes for Susanah Thomson:

Schofield, Heritage Scarborough [mailto:shs at interlog. com] Sent: Saturday March 22, 2003 11:54: PM To: Sandi Sullivan Subject: RE: Thomson Susanna Thomson and her husband Charles Sanderson are buried in the Cemetery at the old Wexford Wesleyan Methodist Church (Lawrence Avenue, & Victoria Park). While the interred remains are still there, the monuments are not. I believe a few were moved to Wexford Heights Cemetery, some were vandalized or stolen and what remained, I believe, were buried beneath a stone cairn which was erected on the site in 1989. I have not visited the site in some time so I can't comment on what's still there. The Cemetery has been surveyed and registered on title as a Cemetery to prevent any construction on the site. I believe title lies with the United Church under the supervision of the Wexford Heights Church. The visible stones were transcribed in 1977 and again in 1986. Ones of interest to you include: Sanderson, Charles, died 16 July, 1884, 65 years. Sanderson, Susanna, died 20 March 1898, 69 years, wife of Charles Sanderson, Seneca Charles, died 18 September 1865, 6 years,7 days, son of Charles and Susannah Sanderson. Sanderson, William, son of -. Ann -erson The Cemetery was also known locally as the Fitzpatrick Appointment as William Fitzpatrick granted the land for a church and Cemetery shortly after he acquired the property in 1832. While the Cemetery lies on the west side of Victoria Park in the North York community, the church was moved and later replaced by a brick ediface on the Scarborough side of the Town Line. The last know burial there was in 1912 but that was several years after Susanna was buried there in 1898. Nobody was interred between those dates and nobody else after four children of the Maginn family were interred in 1891 after they died of diphtheria. Some say people were afraid to set foot in the old Cemetery after that.

Notes for Louis Robertson:

There are two empty plots, one on each side of the graves, that were for the two boys if they wanted or needed them. The headstone is over Clarissa's grave at her head and Louis is interred on her right (the viewer's left). The headstone reads: In memory of CLARISSA A. SANDERSON Oct 21 1863 Dec 6 1948 Beloved wife of LOUIS ROBERTSON Sept 18 1872 Sept 14 1951 Peace Perfect Peace Louis left home in England at the age of 12 for reasons unknown and earned his passage to America on a sailing vessel while working as the captain's cabin boy. After landing (probably at New York City) he signed on again for a voyage around Cape Horn to the west coast of America. He landed (probably at San Francisco) and was discharged with the captain's written recommendation to be taken on as an "Able Bodied Seaman" if he ever went to sea again-he never went. On his way East, he stayed at a cabin in the Rockies where he made his own skis by forming the curved tips between the logs of the cabin walls. Somehow, he got to Pennsylvania and worked for a Dutch farmer (probably an Amish farmer) for a year or two. He was there long enough to learn a little German. It was a case of "Learn to speak German or you won't eat!". His next stop was Canada and the beginning of his family life. He had sown his wild oats! Louis had many real-life stories for his grandchildren at bedtime. Everything from hand cutting wine bottle corks as a boy in England to catching sharks and flying fish at sea. Some of his tales were so intriguing that they became standard fare and were repeated time after time by popular request. He was a gentle man, and within his means, a generous man. He loved a good game of chess with his grandson, Roy, and a smoke now and then. Have family movie from 1930-40 in family file. There are two empty plots, one on each side of the graves, that were for the two boys if they wanted or needed them.

Notes for Ethel Muriel Thomson:

Ethel wrote the first DESCENDANTS of David Thomson and Mary Glendenning Edited by ETHEL MacPherson 1958 Preface to the First Edition, 1958 For many years it has been my fondest dream to compile a book of the David Thomson Descendants, and as the saying goes nothing ventured, nothing gained. The descendants are scattered all over the North American Continent, and it has been impossible to contact every one, so this list is far from complete, and there may even be errors in the names and dates. Even though I have done all the writing, typing and talking, much of the credit goes to my husband Hughbert MacPherson, who has willingly driven several hundred miles, and sat patiently in the car for hours at a time, while I interviewed the people for names and dates. Many, many hours have been spent on this project, but every minute has been a pleasure, and so all good things must come to an end. Ethel MacPherson, February, 1958. Brooklin, Durham, Ontario, Canada.

I believe that this was submitted by you. My great-grandmother was Mary Jane McKitrick who was married to William Bartlett. I have been unable to find any information regarding her family. Do you by any chance have any information on the McKitricks that would help me to make a connection? I believe that they were from around the Orangeville, Ontario, Canada area although they were in Toronto in 1882. Any information that you might have which would help me to make a connection would be appreciated. Thank you.
