LOUIS1
FOUNTAIN 1 was born in 1787 in Québec, Canada2.
He died after 1851 in Thorah, Ontario, Ontario, Canada3.
He married MARY VICTORIA APPLETON. She was born between
Oct 1787-Oct 1788 in Kingston, Frontenac, Ontario, Canada1.
She died on 08 Oct 1890 in Thorah, Ontario, Ontario, Canada4. More About Louis Fountain: Military Service: 1814 in Private, 5th Company, York Militia

Page: 85 Line: 32 Roll: C_11761 Schedule: A2 Notes for Louis
Fountain: During the Nineteenth Century, the militia in York county was
organized and re-organized several times. The militia became active, however,
on two occasions. The first time was during the War of 1812, when they served
under General Brock at the capture of Detroit and at Queenston. Few, however,
saw action after the capture and burning of the town of York in 1813. The
second occasion was the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837. 30 March 1820 - Louis FONTAIN received a Freegrant. One other child on 1851 census, but can not make it out. It is reported on his son John Fountain's death notice that
his name is Lewis and he was born in England. Interesting email: I have requested more information and as yet no reply From: Laura Heidman [mailto:d_heidman@sympatico.ca] Sent:
August-29-07 2:08 PM To: d_heidman@sympatico.ca Subject: Lewis Fountain (aka
Louis Fontaine) Hello everyone, If you are reading this msg, it means I have you down as a researcher of the Fontaine / Fountain family in Ontario. For a number of years I have struggled with the identity of
Lewis Fountain and Mary Victoria Appleton, their ancestry and original
origins before coming to Ontario in the early part of the 19th century. Last year, while researching my husband's ancestors who were
voyageurs in Lake Huron, I located an entry for a Louis Fontaine as a member
of the voyageur group who relocated to Penetanguishene from Drummond Island
after the War of 1812 and Treaty of Ghent (see
http://www3.sympatico.ca/sneakers/list.htm). I was unable to find any
long-term record of Louis Fontaine in the Penetanguishene area (i.e. 1851
census, etc). There is documentation of other Drummond Island voyageurs who left Penetang for the Gwilliambury area shortly after
arriving. After checking more voyageur records, I found Louis Fontaine
recorded on 27 Jun 1807 at Mackinac Island as working for Robert Dickson
& Co. after wintering in Ouisconsin (see http://www3.sympatico.ca/sneakers/abbottlist.htm). On a hunch, this week while at the Penetanguishene Archives I
checked the baptismal records for St. Ann Catholic Church in Penetang and
found the following (which I have translated from French and plan on scanning
shortly): " Two
"illegitimate" children were baptized at St. Ann Catholic Church in
Penetanguishene on 21 Jan 1836. " Louis
Fontaine, son illegitimate of Louis Fontaine and Marie Flappleton. Godfather
Francois Lanlois, godmother Marie Langlois. " Susanne
Fontaine, daughter illegitimate of Louis Fontaine and Marie FlAppleton.
Godfather David Melain, godmother Susanne Macleod. Source: St. Ann baptismal register. Located 27 August 2007 at
the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum and Archives, Burke St. The addition of the "FL" at the beginning of
Appleton is odd, but I've seen instances of misspelled names by priests in
the past. I've found no record of the name "Flappleton" in any
other records and believe it is in error. I was pressed for time and didn't have an opportunity to do a
full check of the records, so I don't know if Louis and Marie married in
Penetanguishene as well, or if any other children were also baptised there. I
have found instances where voyageurs baptised their children and married the
"country wives" around the same time since in many cases this was
their first access to clergy. I am hoping to get back down to Penetang in
September and do a more concise search. But, after returning home on Monday, I searched the PRDH for
Appleton and found a Marie Victoire Appleton baptised in Lachine, PQ the
daughter of Jacques Appleton and Marie Charlotte Billet. Lachine occupied a
strategic position on the fur route as a departure and arrival point for
trading expeditions. It was also an important centre for storing the Montréal
merchants' furs and for trading goods. Jacques Appleton did not have any parents listed at the time of his marriage to Marie in Montreal on 14 Jun 1790. However, Marie has an extensive genealogy recorded in the PRDH. I have yet to get all the data entered into my database, but once I do I would be happy to share the information with anyone who is interested. If you are interested in any copies of the documents or wish
to discuss information I've listed above please feel free to contact me. Laura Knight Heidman laura@parrysound.com |

Buried with Grandson William Eli Fountain and his wife. Was 102 years old
when she died. 1851 census says that she was born in 1797 From: Brian Coleman [mailto:btcoleman@comcast.net] Sent: September-03-08 10:11 PM To: sandi@sandisullivan.com Subject: Children of Mary Victoria (Heppleton) Fountai Hi Sandi My name is Brian Coleman and I am a descendant of
James Fountain the son of Susan and Joseph Fountain. I am looking for help
with the Louis Fountain - Mary Appleton (Heppleton) information in our common
portion of the family tree. There are a couple of aspects that present some
difficulty. If Mary Victoria was born about 1788 then she is 34 yrs old when
Elizabeth is born in 1822, 38 yrs old when John William is born in 1827, 41
yrs old when Susan is born in 1830, 42 when Lewis is born a year later, 54
when William is born in 1842, and 59 when Margaret is born in 1847. Possibly
the last two were orphan relatives adopted by the family. It defies belief
that they were natural issue. Another area of difficlty is Joseph Fountain
the husband of Susan Fountain. You indicate that he was the son of Lewis
Fountain whereas Susan was the daughter of Louis Fountain and Mary Appleton.
Can you help with information that distinguishes Louis from Lewis? My
grandmother stated that it was Fountain family lore that an ancestor had
fought on the British side in the war of 1812. Was it Lewis or Louis? I had a
Quebec genealogist search for a Louis Fountain born in Quebec and he was
unable to locate any record - however he did find information that there was
a Lewis Fountain in Canada West (Ontario). Do you have records that state
Louis Fountain was born in 1876 in Quebec? Can you share that source? You
give a birthdate of my Great-grandfather James Fountain as Feb 7, 1870. I
knew James when I was a boy - he was quite deaf and had been a farmer and a
blacksmith. James died in August 1952 at Soldier's Memorial Hospital in
Orillia. His age at the time was 87 years which means he would have been born
in 1865. Again, I would really appreciate the source for the 1870 date.
Joseph his father was also a blacksmith and I found record of Joseph and
Susan in Pefferlaw Ontario about 1853 where he is listed as a blacksmith. I
have other notes on James and Roseanna Boyle. Just let me know if they are of
interest and I will send them along. |

error...Sarah Ann would have had Rose at age 48 not 58. The Salvation Army photo

have been quite the lady. I'm trying to pin point who Sarah Ann's parents
were, and suspect she is daughter of John Leopard who died in 1849 (son of
the Will writer), but it's a guess going by her birth year, as to her fitting
with this family rather than some of their cousins. Perhaps something more
will come up. April abellraven( at )telus.net Sent: November 7, 2006 11:52 AM First name is Caryann on 31 March 1901 census States that she

Gemmell or Gennell Notes for Mary Ellen
Fountain: John Henry "Harry" Trivett came out west first in
about 1909. He picked as his homestead a quarter section
near Readlyn that had a spring on it as well as a very poor coal seam in the
hillside. Being a non-Farmer to him these were very important items to have
on your property. The land itself was very poor, very hilly and light soil.
The lower part was mostly alkali; to this he added another quarter section
right beside it. He then built a small 2-room building for a house (which I
saw when I was a very small child) and another building for the horses. The
total acreage for growing grain on the 2 quarters was about 85 acres out of
320. The next year he sent for Mary Ellen and my Mom Hazel Trivett, who was
about 11 or 12 at the time, as well, Fred may have come out at this time.
Harry met the women at the train station in Moose Jaw and drove them to the
homestead in a wagon and a team of oxen. It took them 2 days to get there.
They stayed at a roadside house in the village of Expanse, which is no longer
there. Mom talked about every time the oxen started up with a jerk the women
would go over backwards and there was nothing but petticoats and feet up in
the air. Grandpa and Grandma
would come up to visit Mom and Dad every Sunday for dinner. They drove two
nice grey carriage horses that loved to run (Lorne just loved to get behind
them and let them go). They never did own a car or a vehicle of any kind.
This use to bother Mom somewhat as she wanted to entertain other people in
the community, but could not for her Mom and Dad would show up for Sunday
dinner. Dad ended up doing most of their farming as they had neither the
means or the know how. When Mary Ellen came
out west she became very religious and was of the faith of Salvation Army
(how or why I have no idea). She has said that when she died she did no want
any music at her funeral. When she died and the service as about to start the
organ at the church would not play even though it was playing during practice
just before the service. The funeral service continued without music and
after the service the organ worked just fine. This story is written up in the
Assiniboia Museum where the organ is on display today, as well as this story
is written in a collection of Saskatchewan, Canada. Ghost Stories on sale in
book stores. This same Museum in Assinaboia has Grandpa Trivett's Wedding
suit on display. Mom donated the suit to the museum. It must be 125 years
old. I have a chair that was in Grandma's kitchen that was passed on to my
mom then on to me. I hope to someday get it restored. A gravestone that has
both their names on it as well as Fred's name marks the graves. I have a
picture of it and will send it to you when I can find it. Written by Jerry
Dennison, 2002. Mary Ellen Trivett.
Plot #141 was ordered on May 22, 1928 and cost $10. She was female, married
and a housewife. Place of birth = Ontario, Canada, place of death =
Assiniboia. She died on the 22nd of May, 1928 at the age of 70 years. Cause
of death was Myocardial (2nd word unreadable but obviously heart attack). Her
doctor's name was J. Gemmell or Gennell. She was a protestant and her death
was registered in Assiniboia. Ghost Stories of Saskatchewan, Canada by Jo-Anne Christensen The Silent Organ Some time ago the Assiniboia and District Historical Society
came into possession of an antique pump organ. It had been poorly stored over
the years, and came laden with dust, leaves and bird droppings. It also came
with a fascinating story. Today, the organ has
been beautifully cleaned and restored, and is on display in the Society's
museum. As for the story, Lila Martinson was kind enough to share it. The Trivetts were among
many families of British descent that settled first in Ontario, Canada, then
migrated west. In 1908, with their five children in tow, Mr. and Mrs. Trivett
came to a new life on a new homestead, near the now-extinct town of Readlyn,
Saskatchewan, Canada. Mary Trivett must have
been the embodiment of the unflappable constitution her forefathers made
famous. Surely, as the mother of five and a busy farm wife, her days were
filled with hard work and worries. Still, she was always able to help a
neighbour or take on a new challenge, and her ability to "be
British" in the face of adversity made her a valued member of the
community. All her life, Mary had
been a devoted member of the Salvation Army. In Readlyn there was no branch
of her beloved organization, but such a trivial detail could never have kept
the determined Mrs. Trivett from carrying out their charitable doctrine. Her home
was always open to the poor and outcast, her
kindnesses were known to friends and strangers alike, and throughout World
War I, all of Readlyn benefited from her strenuous wartime efforts. Much of Mary's good
work was accomplished through her affiliation with the United Church. She
enjoyed the church and its people immensely, but confessed once to the
organist, Walter Eaglestone, that she dearly missed the energizing drums and
tambourines associated with the Salvation Army. "When I go,"
she confided to him, "I don't want the organ played at my funeral. " Apparently, Mary felt that the traditional sombre
music would not be appropriately indicative of her upbeat life. Walter Eaglestone may
have dismissed the comment as casual conversation, or he may have simply
forgotten it with time. Whatever the reason, when Mary Trivett passed away in
the spring of 1928, her request was overlooked. Walter, still being the
United Church's most accomplished organist, prepared a number of moving hymns
for Mary's funeral. The day of the service
came, and mourners began filing into the church. At this cue, Walter selected
his first hymn and began to play. Strangely, the organ
didn't make a sound. Confused, Walter tried
playing the notes again. The only thing to be heard was the shuffling of
Mary's many friends, as they took places in the pews. Walter gave the organ a
discreet examination and found nothing apparently wrong with it. Indeed, it
had played beautifully just hours before, as Walter diligently practiced the
hymns. But now, no matter how he pumped the pedals or what keys he played,
the instrument remained mysteriously mute. Finally, the frustrated man gave
up, and Mary Trivett's funeral service continued without musical
accompaniment. Following the
interment, Walter returned to the church, hoping to solve the puzzle. With
the first note he struck, however, music filled the room. Amazingly, the
organ played just as it had up to the moment when Mary's funeral began. And suddenly, it made
sense. Everything became clear
to Walter, as he remembered the woman's words of long ago. Mary had not
wanted the organ played at her funeral and so, it had not played. Somehow,
this determined lady had seen to it that her one last wish was fulfilled. Today, as this
beautiful instrument sits on display in Assiniboia, we are reminded of one
woman's staunch spirit. The silent organ honoured Mary Trivett as no hymn
ever could. From: Monica Erdahl Drake [mailto:erdahl at idirect. com] Sent: January 16, 2003 9:33 AM To: Sandi Sullivan Sandi, Thank you so much!!! You have no way of knowing this but the Eaglestone's (the organist Walter) is a distant member of my own family. The story is fascinating and of course anything that mentions Readlyn gets my attention. {G} |

WESTERN NEWMARKETS News of Trivetts, McDonalds and Greensides, who are Remembered in the Friendly Old Town Mr. Mont Lowther, Secretary of the Readlyn Board of Trade, in the Willow Branch district of Saskatchewan, Canada, southwest of Regina, writes to the Era:- The funeral today in our Cemetery of one of your old-time residents. Mr. J. H. Trivett, one-time employee of Cane's Factory, has prompted me to write an account of the Newmarket people of this district. Mr. J. H. Trivett, who passed away peacefully in the Assinaboia Hospital, Wednesday April 1st. at the age of 79, came to this district and filed on 320 acres of land [raw prairie] which he owned and operated till death took him. His wife, beloved of everybody, predeceased him some three years while his son Fred, died in the spring of 1930, after having proved up on a quarter section. His daughter, Hazel, [Mrs. Elmer Dennison] and their five children own and operate over twelve hundred acres of land. out that the late Mr. Henry Trivett, whose recent death in Readlyn,
Saskatchewan, Canada evoked the article in last week's Era by Mr. Lowther of
Readlyn, had more than the three brothers in Newmarket who were mentioned.
Five brothers and a sister survive Henry Trivett: George, Timothy, and Peter
previously named and Albert are the four brothers in
Newmarket. William Trivett lives in Burk's Falls and the sister Mrs. John
Warren resides at 109 Roxborough Street West Toronto. A son of Henry Trivett
lives in Aurora. The Newmarket Era 24/4/1931 Page4 The Newmarket Era 19/9/46 50 Years Ago On Tuesday afternoon,
just after the threshing at ex-mayors Cane's barn was finished, the men
stated out of the yard with the machinery. A woman driving a horse and buggy
came along just then and the horse took fright at the thresher. Mr Harry
Trivett went to the lady's assistance and grabbed the horse's head. The
animal reared up and threw him from his feet, and as he came down the horse
tramped on him with all its weight, sinking the caulk of the shoe into the
calf of Harry's leg. The horse was kept under control but Harry had to be
driven to the drug store to have the painful wound attended to. Written by Hazel Trivett, before her death. History of the Harry Trivett Family in the Lake of the Rivers Municipality #72 Harry Trivett was born in Horncastle, Devonshire, England
April 22, 1851. He came with his parents, Timothy and Thurza Trivett by
sailing ship and stagecoach to Newmarket, York, Ontario, Canada. It took six
weeks to come in 1857. Here he got his education and papers to operate a
stationary steam engine, which I understand are the basic principals that are
used, today. His leather bound book is in the Assinaboia Museum for anyone to
look at. He worked at Cane's Factory, which made everything from wood from
clothespins, pencils to Washtubs. The factory was the main stay of the town
for employment. He married Mary Ellen
Fountain in 1874. She was of Dutch decent from her mother's side and English
and French from her father's side. They had three sons, Frank, Fred and John
and two daughters, Thurza and Hazel and it is I who is writing this. Dad had an acre and a
half outside town limits, it had an orchard and fruit bushes, mother grew all
kinds of flowers and a good size pasture for Dad's horses, a beautiful bay,
which had to be exercised. He would take me with him and we would go out on
Young Street west of town, the same Young Street that runs from Toronto to
Sutton West and Jackson's Point on Lake Simcoe. There would be others
exercising their horses and we would always have a race and end up the winner.
It was fun. I also had to pay a
dollar a month to go to school in town. Mother took me to the primary school
where the teacher, a Miss Ironsides, could read heads. I learned she was well
name and also lived up to it. As I would be walking to school, I would pass
pupils going to Second Street School two miles in the country. I brought home
my books one day and told Mother I was going with the others. She said I
could have the dollar for myself but after a couple of months, she somehow
forgot. It was here where I got my schooling and made friends
which has stood me in good sted to this day. My last two years there I
had a wonderful teacher, who has been a big influence on my life to this day. Frank also worked in
Cane's factory, as did Fred. Fred had a bad case of asthma and lost a lot of
time off work. But his Uncle Tim was foreman of the clothespin departments
and always kept his job for him at one dollar and twenty-five cents ($1. 25)
a day. John went to Toronto to work and live. It was for Fred's health that
Dad came west in 1910 to a drier climate. He followed the McDonalds to Moose
Jaw. Land was pretty well taken up by then but he filed on the North ¼ of 3 4
and the North West of 35, 7, 28, West 2nd for the beautiful spring on it
which flows to this day. Dad returned in the fall and went back again in 1911
to build accommodation for us. As some made sod houses Dad made ours of
shiplap. Mother had a sale of household effects and the house and property.
We left Newmarket the 11 of August in 1911 on the Grand trunk railroad with a
Harvesters Excursion ticket. For ten dollars, we had a coach of red plush
seats with a stove in the rear for cooking whatever you had brought to cook.
The rest of the train had slot seats and the harvesters got off at stations
to eat at lunch counters. My Father met us with a
team of oxen and a double deck wagon for the settler's effects. We had
brought with us, which consisted of a barrel of preserved fruit, a cook
stove, table chairs, Mother's great grandfathers clock, whose works were made
of wood, beds, quilts and our trunks of clothes, also rhubarb and horse
radish root. We left Moose Jaw about four P. M. and stopped at a stopping place, twelve miles out, Mother and I slept in the house but Dad and Fred slept in the loft as did other men. At breakfasts, time the flies were so bad on could hardly take a mouthful of food. As we got out on the wide-open prairie with flowers everywhere, it reminded me of a poem I learned at School There are the gardens of the desert. These
the unshorn fields Bounteous and beautiful For which the speech of
England has no name. The Prairies. That described the scene exactly. Fred went on the second
day with one of the truckers hauling merchandise to stores away from the
railroad. Dad, Mother and I stopped at Todd's Stopping Place. This is where
the town of Expance now stands. They left me the next day at Lyle McDonalds.
I was taken next day to George McDonalds, the half way house between Davyroyd
and Deanton Post Offices. I was told I was wanted in the house. It was Fred
who said to me "get to these dishes" He had ruled me all my life
through Mother. In Newmarket, I could not go skating at the rink on Saturdays
that he had spies watching who I skated with and he knew long before I got
home. Dad and Mother went on to the Shack Dad had built for us, our future
home. Dad was sixty and Mother fifty-seven and starting all over again for
the sake of their sons health. We had a tent to cover our possessions until
more room was built on. Eventually a porch was build. I soon learned how to harness oxen by putting the horse collar on upside down. We got to know our neighbours by them coming to the spring for barrels of water. Deanton post office was in a part sod and part lumber shack. It was a mile and a quarter to the Northeast and up a coulee. We posted our mail on Tuesdays and Fridays and got mail on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It was brought by stagecoach from Moose Jaw with three changes of horses in the sixty miles. We got the News through the Winnipeg Free Press and Prairie Farmer. This is how we learned of the Titanic disaster in April 1912. The mosquitoes were very thick in the long prairie grass. I had to cut strips of paper and roll around my legs under my stocking to protect my legs. I had very thin kid shoes and if I stepped on a cactus, the spikes punctured them and I would have to sit down and pull them out. I soon got so I could drive oxen and would take Mother to William Lowes store to get a good supply of groceries. This store was three and a half miles west of us and was kept supplied by the truckers from Moose Jaw Dad built another shack on the east side witch doubled our
floor space. When the floor was covered with linoleum, curtains to the
windows it looked very comfortable for Fred's rocker, Dad's armchair, Mothers
sewing machine and my books. We had to use the coal from the soft coal mines
which when broken up you could see the grain of the wood. Mothers never
accepted the idea of using buffalo chips. Dad kept on breaking up the virgin
prairies to get as many acres in crop next year. The oxen would be tethered
out during the summer, but he built a stable for them for winter. Entertainment was nil
in our house. Mother belonged to the Salvation Army so a deck of cards was
not allowed in the house. When the young people came to visit me, the evening
had to be past by conversation. Through Dad, I got to
go with these young people to my first Dance. The first man who asked me for
a Dance I said "No Thanks. I do not care for fruit" A smart alec
answer from a kid from Eastern Canada. But a Mr. Stirling made me get up with
him and it was not long until I could make my feet move to music. But Dances
were few and far between. When we came to the
homestead in 1911, the C. P. R. was as close as Ogema on the East but in
1912, the train was near as a small town, which they called Readlyn. It
sprang up over night with banks, stores and lumberyards. We were only three
miles from it. Our post office was changed from Deanton to Readlyn. In 1912, Mother and Fred put in a good size garden and people in Readlyn would come out to get vegetables of any kind. Our rhubarb and horseradish roots and Dad's Manitoba, Canada Maples really thrived in the warm ground I spent a lot of time at Mrs. George McDonald's. She had
lovely furniture, rugs and silverware, which she brought from Moose Jaw. She
liked to have me polish her silverware and keep her furniture dusted. So many
people stopped there on their way to either of the post offices she had a lot
of company. She was a beautiful piano player and when her father in law was
there, they had a lot in common. Tom McDonald was bandmaster of the Newmarket
band in Ontario, Canada. He had a wonderful ear for music and could sit back
and listen to you play and tell if you were a note out. His family and his
grandchildren were all musical One very warm Sunday in June Fred and I walked the six miles
to St. Augustine Church built in the Davyroy District. The first protestant
church south of Moose Jaw. It was supplied by a Missionary Preacher. We had a
very heavy electrical storm, but that was the day of the Regina Cyclone. We
learned later from the Winnipeg Free press, some people were killed and
thousand of dollars damage done. We stopped for lunch at a homesteaders
cabin. I had to walk back barefooted and carry my shoes and stockings. By 1912, The C. P. R.
from the East had reached Assinaboia and so had the train from the north and
made a terminal in town. The firemen from the East let sparks fall on the
long dry grass in the Lake of the Rivers bottom. With a bit of a wind the
flames two feet high came very fast toward us. Water had to be brought to us
to keep our gunnysacks wet to fight it. We had to save our pasture and what
crop we had. Alaki holes had to be
avoided in the lake bottom. If a mule got in one it would have to be pulled
out by a chain around its neck by another team. Fred's health greatly
improved in the dry air. In 1913, he could walk the three miles into Readlyn,
work in the lumberyard and walk home again. It made him feel
better to be able to get out and meet people. Dad bought himself a
team of drivers but he was the only one who could drive them. But, I was glad
they had a faster way of getting around. Frank had come out and
paid us a nice visit for a couple of weeks. I had met a tall young
man, which I married in February 1914. He had bought a Hudson Bay half and
built a four room med house. So, I relieved the crowding at home. It was just
four miles from Dad's and every Sunday they came bright and early to spend
the day. My father to spend the day with Elmer outside doing whatever there
was to be done. Mother and Fred to get a change of scenery and food. It was Elmer who
persuaded Fred to file on a quarter section north of
Dad's. He could prove up on it by living at home. Elmer put up the necessary
fence and offered Fred one thousand dollars for it, as we needed a pasture.
Fred bought himself a second hand grey Dort car and had some left over. Life
went on for both of us. My sister Thurza came out to visit us. Dad and Mother
celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1924 at my place. I had a fairly
large home and Ninety-five attended the celebration. They were given a down
comforter, but Mother did not appreciate it too much. She had brought out so
many quilts of her own. I guess it was the thought that mattered. Mother developed
dropsy. She would bloat up to quite a size but after a time in the hospital
the Dr. would have it all away and she would be as slim as a young girl. But
this could not go on forever. She passed away in the Assinaboia Hospital. May
24th, 1928 at 75 years of age. Never having got her one wish, to get back to
Newmarket. John had been here for sometime so he cooked for Fred and Dad.
Fred was spending the odd stint in Hospital now and seemed to be wanting
there too often. He said he wanted the medicated air. He had just come out
and was wanting permission from the council to get
back in. But that was hardly enough reason so the council refused it. When John
went to call him for dinner on May 18th 1930, he was dead. John stayed on and
cooked for Dad, but eventually his lungs filled with fluid and he was put in
the hospital where he died April 1st, 1931. Mother and Fred's funeral service
was conducted in the United Church in Readlyn, but Dad was an Anglican so we
had his service in our home by the lay minister. The three of them died
within three years and all were buried in the Readlyn Cemetery. In Dad's
will, the farm was left to John and I Elmer paid John off and he went up
north where he died. I got the great
Grandfathers clock, which kept perfect time until some of the wooden works
wore out. The jewellery man said the wood came from Sweden and as the war was
on it could not be got. More About John Henry Trivett and Mary Ellen Fountain: Record Number: Minister: |

Sent: Tuesday, July 8, 2003 3:39 AM Subject: Lount, George Willets Hi Sandi, Don Spear here. I found your info submitted to Ancestry. com about George Willets Lount`s 3rd. wife Elizabeth McKinzie and their children. I would like to know if I can include your info on their children birthday`s in the Lount WebSite at www. Lount. org in the extended family section and credit you as the source? Also would like to know if you have any picture`s or know any of George and Elizabeth`s descendant`s ? I have talked with descendant`s of John Andrew Lount and Violet May Wilson who live over there in Canada but they did not have any info about John Andrew and his sibling`s as they weren`t into genealogy. Would also appreciate any additional info about George Willets & Elizabeth`s family that you wouldn`t mind sharing and am wondering if Elizabeth was a descendant of William Lyon MacKenzie b. 12 Mar. 1795, d. 28 Aug. 1861 and his wife Isabel Baxter b. 28 July 1802, d. 12 Jan. 1873, the one involved in The Toronto Rebellion of 1837. I notice you have a William Lyon McKenzie b. 10 Sept. 1871 as a sibling to Elizabeth b. 13 July 1876. I also see why I`ve heard stories about Elizabeth and if she was a wife or mistress to George Willets Lount. ;-0 35 years age diff. ! lol George Willets Lount was a nephew to Samuel Lount who was hung 12 Apr. 1838 in Toronto along with Peter Matthews for their involvement in the Toronto Rebellion of 1837/Patriot`s War/Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837. Don Spear, Michigan, USA Dec. of Samuel Lount & Elizabeth Soules also an editor of the Lount WebSite |

Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada42 Also Known As: Jack Religion: Funeral Home: Notes for John Henry
Trivett: John Henry Trivett lived in Christopher Lake after he left his
wife and 6 children in Ontario, Canada. Christopher Lake had a population of
50 or 60; it is North of Prince Albert, very close to Prince Albert National
Park. The village was on either side of the highway, which was the only
street. John had a one-room building with a bed in one corner and a small cook
stove in the other, a table and 2 chairs were there as well. The walls were
plain, I don't remember if there were wallboards on the inside or not. There
were cupboards over the table. An outdoor toilet out back and a washstand
with no running water. I remember if smelled like cooking and stale tobacco.
It had a single slopping roof and one window in the west. When I would be about 6
or 7 in the mid 1940's, I remember my first recollection of John Henry, he
came to the farm (we were living on the farm at that time) in his old had
painted blue Ford convertible coup with a rumble sear in the back. It was
almost worn out and had no power at all even thou it was a V8. I thought at
the time that this was the best car I had ever seen or ridden in. John Henry
would come in the fall and would lend a hand at harvest were he could for he
was a bit lazy and at this time he would be up in years. He would stay for 3
to 5 weeks. When harvest was done then my dad would go hunting ducks and if
it was a Saturday I could go along. John Henry would only shoot when it was a
sure shot and there was not too much of a chance of him missing. He did not
have too much money at this time in his life and shells cost money. I
remember Dad giving him the what for one time for not shooting and John Henry
saying he didn't see the duck. He was not too tall, big around the middle and
a bit over weight. He always called me "Deary". He had a large sore
behind the ear called I think mastoids. It was like an open growth. He was a
smoker but not a heavy smoker and he used roll your owns. Each year he would come
down and visit us in the fall on the farm. This went on till 1949 when we
moved to the town of Assiniboia and Dad (Elmer R. Dennison) farmed from
there. Then John Henry would come to stay with us there in Assiniboia in the
fall. This would be one of the last times he came to see us maybe 1952-53. He
was getting old and poor of health in fact in his latter years he had a leg
amputated because of gangrene. The community took him under their wing and
took care of him for now he was in a wheel chair. When John Henry passed
away my Dad was already dead and Mom (Hazel Agnes Trivett) was living alone.
She wanted so badly to go to her brother's funeral in Christopher Lake but
everyone was working at the time. I was teaching in Regina and was unable to
get away. I remember her being so mad. Mom was a bit of a
social climber and was not always proud of her relatives. She use to get a bit gruff with John Henry when she figured he
had stayed long enough. Of course there was always the extra work that went
with having another person stay at your house and it was always in thrashing
time. Lorne Dennison liked John Henry and he would in the late 1950's and
early 60's go to Prince Albert National Park with his family for a holiday in
the summer. He would always call in on John Henry and have a visit and invite
him to their rented cabin in the park. They would have great times together.
On occasion Mom and Dad would go up there and do the same. John Henry would sometimes
come down in the 1920's to help whit harvest on my Dad's farm. He would join
the threshing crew of 8 to 12 men and would go around the countryside
harvesting crops. Uncle left Ontario,
Canada for the west and lived but a short time Grandpa and Grandma Trivett.
He then moved up North to Christopher Lake where he lived with the Indians. I
don't think he did too much hunting and trapping but worked in the Village
doing odd jobs for various people. John Henry left his wife and six children
and came west because of some extra marital relationship that he got into at
that time. Lorne says that John Henry sure loved the women. Written by Jerry Dennison, 2002 Jerry Dennison says that John was a friend of Archibald
Stansfeld Belaney aka Grey Owl. This would make sense as they lived in the
same area at the same time period. From: Leverne & Rene Baxter [mailto:baxter. renlev@sasktel. net] Sent: Friday, September 24, 2004 10:44 To: Sandi@SandiSullivan. com Subject: Re: John Henry Trivett Dear Sandi, I can confirm that John Henry Trivett is buried in
the St. Christopher Cemetery, at Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan-Lot A120.
There is a small marker of the type that funeral homes use with his name and
1778-1968 on it. The Cemetery record says that he died 17 July 1968. Christopher Lake is a
small community and I have been told that some people may remember him, but
as yet have found no one. If I do, I will let you know. Sincerely, Leverne
Baxter

Ellen Trivett: I remember my mother's sister very well, Aunt Thurza Sabin.
She was a gruff old lady who lived in Toronto and sometimes came out west to
visit. She always sent a big parcel to us before Christmas and it would be full
of toys, candy and clothes. She would start saving towards this package early
in the year and to keep the moths out she would put in mothballs, which
ruined every bit of candy. One time when she was
visiting out west in Assiniboia and we were in a store, she yelled at my mom
who was visiting with neighbours to get her ass out the door. I don't know
much about the facts of her life though Birth, Death: I think she had on son
named Elmer named after her husband Elmer. Written by Jerry Dennison, 2002.

Trivett Senior (Grandpa). Across the valley from the homestead was the
railway track. The train would blow its whistle as it passed Grandpa's home
and it always, according to Lorne, would blow the whistle the same time each
day as the clock would strike the hour. The clock was special in that the
working parts were carved wood; all the gears and pulleys were made of wood.
Mom took it to town to have repairs done on it after Granddad had passed away
and the jeweller lost it. I remember seeing the weights that went with the
clock around the farm inn the early 40's. Take care Jerry |

Church Street, North, Ajax, Ontario, Canada73 Occupation:73 Weight: 179 lb. 14 oz. Military Service: World War II, Canadian Expeditionary Force73 Cause Of Death: Alzheimer?s Height: 6 ft. 0 in. Notes for Royce Howard
Sullivan: Thank you for coming today, I will try to get through this as
best I can. My Dad was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather,
Veteran, a 2 time hole-in-one scratch golfer, and many other things. I will start off with a
story my Uncle Alf told me a few times in fact. Dad's family lived on Coxwell
Ave in Toronto and from what I can gather the house was always full. Dad had
3 brothers and 3 sisters spanning a 20 year age difference. One day my Nana
sent my Uncle Alf to get my Dad. Don't know what he did, but it seemed to me
that my Uncle Alf was always glad to get him. As my uncle was chasing him
down Coxwell Ave to get his hands around his neck, my Dad slipped on the side
walk and fell. When my Dad was scrambling to get to his feet he was also
grabbing his comb out of his back pocket and started to run and comb his hair
at the same time. I can just see my Uncle Alf as my Dad ran away with good
hair. My uncle couldn't kill him that day as he couldn't stop laughing. Dad's
hair saved the day. My Dad could run but he could not climb. When my brother Steve was about 10 years old he climbed a tree at the mini bike trails at Don Mills and the 401. Once Steve climbed out to a branch over the Don River he froze and couldn't move. I think my brother Guy ran home and got my Dad. Dad ran over and climbed the tree to get Steve out but as he climbed to the same branch over the River Dad froze. We had to call the fire department to get both of them down. The next day I remember that my Dad wasn't too happy on hearing the radio announcing every hour on the hour that the Manager of Park Manor Motors was and tree again My Dad (Sully to everyone) was a very social man with many
friends. He had a gang of them, Mike Harrington, Harold Shoniker, Dick Duff
(Duffy) Dan O'Leary, Dan Morrissey, Glen Whitbread, Pete Tucker, Jerry and
Waldo Vince, Mel Taylor and, The big Kahuna (don't know if I ever knew what
Kahua's real name was). And many more the best way to describe them that I
can think of is that they were the Rat Pack (the dirty dozen) with Golf Clubs
instead of microphones. When my father went into business for himself with a
partner Jimmy Izard, they started a used car dealership by the name of
Compact Cars. Every year they would have a golf tournament at Meadowbrook
Golf and Country Club where they were members. Every year my Dad would give
away a used car for closest to the hole and every year I would sit on the
ninth hole with a tape measure. And every year and every time I had to
measure the closest to hole of one of his friends they would try to bribe me.
Every one of them. Was it a test??? I remember they always had a 20 dollar
bill in their hands as they walked up to see what the tape measure said. I
always turned it down. What they didn't know was that the person who won the
car every year always gave me a $50!!!!!! They were a funny bunch to say the
least. My Dad had a few
talents, one of which (I wish I had) was being an expert at crosswords
puzzles, he was a Master. He always had a crossword
on the go. One day in 1997, I was at work Dan was taking one of his few
breaks and doing a crossword. Dan got stuck on a word and for the life of me
I don't know why Dan would ask me. I can't spell and he knows that. But he
did ask. I can remember what the word was, but it was a 9 letter word for
something. I laughed at the thought that he would ask me but if there is one
talent I do have is the ability of recognizing what talent various people
have and knowing who to call and even though my Dad was in the early stages
of Alzheimer. I called him. I asked him the crossword puzzle question and he said. . . hmmmm I will think about it and call you back30
seconds later he called with the answer. I thanked him and went into Dan office.
My Dad says that answer is and he was right. I was so proud of him.
Remembering the little things in life get you through the big ones. Goodbye Dad. Eulogy by Sandi Sullivan, October 11, 2005 Death Notice The Toronto Star, October 8, 2005 SULLIVAN, Royce SULLIVAN, Royce Howard
