They share some common family stories, including that of a Davy 'fortune' sitting in a bank in England. The Davy file in the Lennox and Addington Museum in Napanee contains family histories based on oral traditions, with many exciting episodes from the French and Indian and Revolutionary wars. However, it is difficult to place these stories in precise historical and geographical contexts. According to Bill Barker (Herkimer County historian) Peter was in Lt. Dygert's 1757 militia, next to Balt. Dillenbach and John Hecki. The family belonged to the Stone Arabia Lutheran Church in 1770. On 6 Feb 1781 Dr. Wm Petry treated three of Peter Davis' daughters who had been wounded by Tory Indian raiders. The 1769 SAL church record has birth dates for Catherine as 1749 (SAL footnote corrects to 1759), Margaret as 1760 (Barker amends to 1761 to avoid overlap with Thomas) and Maria as 1763. Peter drew 500 acres for himself and his family consisting of a wife and seven children and by 1790 had made a good improvement on the land. He therefore requested an additional 200 acres in the 8th, but was refused. The Land Board reported that �he appears to have tilled and improved a Lot drawn by his son in conjunction with him and the son having already applied and obtained the Bounty, the Board do not think proper to comply with the present application� [30, pg 165]. Note that he was not included in the muster roll of disbanded soldiers settled in Ernestown 7 Oct 1784 [18], Deeds for his 500 acres were issued by the Crown on 10 August 1801 [15], [23]. Possibly buried by Rev. John Langhorn in Bath, Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada,7 September 1790. Russ McGillivray [russmcgillivray@hotmail. com] BTW, where in Langhorn's register is the burial of Peter Davy in 1790? I don't see it in the published transcription (or Bill Martin's copy on the Web). Carol Davy (of Odessa - I assume you have met her too) also believes this burial is in the register. I think there is circumstantial evidence that Peter lived somewhat longer. I was thinking of the fact that Peter's children's UE petitions did not refer to him as deceased before 1802 when his lots were transferred to John. LAND: UCLP D/Misc DA-DEY 23.
