1.	MICHAEL^1 DAVEY  was born on 15 May 1773 in Stone Arabia, Schenectady, New York, USA. He died after 01 Feb 1831 in Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada. He married ELIZABETH FRIERMOUTH about 1793 in Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada, daughter of John Adam Freymouth and Esther Weeks. She was born before 1775 in New York, USA. She died in Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada^1. More About Michael Davey: Title: U. E. L. Baptism: Lutheran Trinity, Stone Arabia, Schenectady, New York, USA Notes for Michael Davey: Michael Davy son of Peter was born in what is now Little Falls New York, USA. When he was baptized at Trinity Lutheran church, Stone Arabia, his sponsors were Bernard Kaiser and Barbara Emg Arrived in Upper Canada in 1784 but drew no land. Not listed in the muster roll of disbanded soldiers settled in Ernestown, 7 Oct 1784. Did not claim any military service or status as a Loyalist and married about 1793 to Elizabeth, daughter of John Adam Freymouth, a U. E. Loyalist He and his brothers served in the British army during the War of the American Independence. After the war was over the Loyalists who were in the American Colonies were treated very harshly and their lands were confiscated. Michael and his brothers immigrated to Upper Canada. Apparently he arrived in Upper Canada in 1784. Records from the Public Archives give the following data - "Michael Davey, Ernestown, and states residence since 1784 (In Canada). His petition for land is as follows". "Michael Davey having resided in this province since the year 1784 and having drawn no lands prays for an assignment for himself and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of John Adam Freymouth, United Empire Loyalist, 4 Oct. 1798. He was granted lot 32 2nd Concession Pickering, Durham, Ontario, Canada, York County consisting of 200 acres. During the War of 1812 Michael Davy of Ernestown volunteered into a Flank Company at the declaration of War in 1812, and served as a Private at the post of Kingston under the command of Capt Matthew Clark. (NA RG 9 Series I-B-4, Vol 19 pp 1226-8). The certificate of service was signed on 4 Nov 1839 when Michael was already deceased. From the military records in Ottawa is the following extract. "Michael Davey, private, 49th Regiment, discharged under provision general order 6th Dec. 1814. The first lands given to the United Empire Loyalist got additional lands by petitioning the Government for them. Each child of a Loyalist was also entitled to petition and receive lands. Lands received by petition were often sold and the Loyalist or his children may never have resided on such land grants. Michael Davy lived in Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada. We do not know whom he married for a 2nd wife, if any. We do not know the dates of his and his wife's deaths. Both are probably buried in unmarked graves in Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada near Odessa or Bath. HIS LAST WILL AND TESTIMONY IS TRANSCRIBED AS BEST I CAN FROM A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENT. WILL DATED 1 FEB 1831 In the name of God. I Michael Davy of Ernest Town of the Incorporated County of Lenox and Addington, Midland District and Province of Upper Canada, Yoeman, being very sick and weak in Body, but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God calling into mind, the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men, once to die, do make ordain this my last will and testimony that is today principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul unto the hand of Almighty God who gave it and my body, I recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian Burial at the discretion on Executors nothing doubting. the general. I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and as touching the worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with this life. I give and bequeath. and dispose of the same in the manner following. Viz First I give and bequeath unto my eldest son Peter Davy the sum of one pound of lawful money to be paid to him in one year after my decease together with the fifty acres of land and other property which I in my lifetime have given to him suffering to make an equal portion with the rest of my heirs, Next I give and bequeath to my second eldest son John Davy the other fifty acres which joins the fifty acres above mentioned or the value of it to be paid to my son John by my eldest son Peter aforementioned. I give and bequeath to my second eldest son John, Two acres of land lying in the rear end of the lot of land now in my possession number Twenty Four in the Second Concession of Ernest Town. Next I give and bequeath to my third son Michael Davy two acres of land in the rear of said lot before mentioned. Next I give and bequeath to my fourth eldest son Henry Davy one acre of Land in rear of the lot before mentioned. 	Notes for Elizabeth Friermouth: Name could also be Friermouth. From the public archives is this extract "Kingston, 3 April 1798, Elizabeth Davy, wife of Michael Davy and daughter of John Ad am Freymouth, United Empire Loyalist having petitioned for lands some time last year as the daughter of a United Empire Loyalist and having received no answer humbly prays your Honour will grant her 200 acres. The first lands given to the United Empire Loyalist's were giving out by drawing lots for them.

Wherefore your petitioner prays that your excellency will be pleased to grant him two hundred of the waste lands of the Crown and permit Isaac Fraser, Esqr. of the Townsip of Ernest Town to locate the same and take out the deed when completed. And your petitioner as in duty bound will ever pray. Kingston 14th. October 1818 Signed-James Laughlen Copy in Family File On 9-29-1818 his father deeded him lot 28 Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada consisting of 200 acres. All of the children of James Laughlin were born on this farm. There was a creek running through this property which furnished power for a saw mill built by James and his father. The mill was still standing in 1925. On November 2, 1838, James willed the homestead to his two sons, John and Henry. Elizabeth died in 1824. James then married Mary Davey, daughter of Michael Davey and the first cousin of his first wife, Elizabeth Davey. A piece of the homestead property was donated to the church as a Cemetery, and is now known as Union Lutheran Cemetery. James Laughlin had a family bible which passed to his son Benjamin, then to John Shannon Laughlin, then to Mrs. Fred Laughlin of Napanee Ontario, Canada, then to Harry Scott of Napanee and then to his daughter Mrs. George Templeton who had it in 1954.

This is not confirmed as the right Michael but a Michael Davy born 1801 and died 1882 became a clergyman, and in the early days of the Episcopal Methodism he came to Canada; with that religious persuasion he laboured long and zealously for the things he espoused. He was appointed a travelling clergyman on one of the circuits of the Midland District and lived to be old enough in the work to be placed on superannuation list. He baptized Eliza Jane, the eldest daughter of Henry Sidney Davy, and died at the ripe old age of many years.

I have been to the Cemetery in Odessa, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada and found James gravestone buried in the ground. Stood it back up and cleaned it off. There are quite a few Davy's and Laughlin buried there. We took photos. The Cemetery is on a little hill, fenced in from cattle grazing there. It has not been an active Cemetery for many years. It was not easy to find. People in Odessa weren't sure where it was. But an old gentleman, Mr. Brown, in the local hardware remembered where it was- "cause his wife's sitter's husband was the last person buried there". In the late 1800'S (after 1872) Ira Davy moved to Lewisham, Ontario, Canada near the town of Barkway. During this period there was a large logging bonanza in the Muskoka District and it is believed that is why they He moved there. From the Guide Book and Atlas of Muskoka and Perry Sound Districts Ira DAVIE is shown to have two properties in Ryde, being Lot 16 Concession XI and Lot 6 Concession VIII The first lot is near that of Henry Long and Joshua Long (Joshua was the first settler in Ryde, he settled there after 1872). As Ira married Charlotte Ann Long and her father was John Long and they married before arriving in Lewisham, it is not known if the Long's that already reside are related and may have suggested that they move there. The logging boom did not last and at one time Ira had a store in Barkway, which was not in his possession in the early 1900's, and he was not the owner of record at that time. Ira and Charlotte are both buried in the Cemetery nearest to Barkway, next to the Garter Snake Creek. Their daughter Ruth is buried in the Cemetery, approx ½ mile west of their Cemetery and her headstone is engraved Ruth DAVEY. Today there is only a few hunting cabins and a Cemetery in Lewisham but during the logging boom the population was in excess of 2,000. The property now is a mix of swamp and scrub timber and was swept by a forest fire in the late 1980's clearing a large area, which is now occupied by moose and deer.

Amy and Norman had one child George ("junior") but Amy died young so Maggie raised George Jr as well as another cousin Reg Cousins (mother Harriett "Hattie" Cousins nee Ballard) George W. and Maggie were childless. George was a blacksmith in Sydenham and live in the same house most of his life and was an active black smith till he died at 88 years of age.
