When the war was ended the Loyalist had their lands confiscated and were treated as traitors. John was married before he emigrated to Upper Canada. He and his first wife came to Québec, Canada once or twice and apparently returned to New York, USA for some unknown reason. When he emigrated to Upper Canada in the 1780's he was a widower with two daughters, Eve and Catherine. He emigrated to Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada, Upper Canada and given Crown land by drawing lots. He was married on Nov 22, 1787 to Sophy Hoffnel. At the time of marriage he was described as a widower living on the 1st Concession Adolphustown in the 4th Township of Cataraque. He was married in the presence of Hannah Davy. Sophy Hoffnagel was living on the 4th Concession, Cataraqui Township at the time of marriage. Their marriage was the first by Rev. John Langhorn, Anglican Clergy in that district. John received a grant of land from British Government near Bath, Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada. John Davy was a soldier in the Royal Regiment of New York, USA. He was on the provisional list of the Land Board of Mecklenberg, Upper Canada in 1786, so he emigrated to Upper Canada before that time. John and Sophy witnessed the marriages of: Daniel Morden and Elizabeth Lawson, 24 Dec 1788 John Smith and Sarah Fisher, 23 Dec 1800 A Cemetery transcription says that John Davy died 30 May 1808 age 59 years. They lived in Belleville, Hastings, Ontario, Canada and owned the first brick house in Belleville, which was then called by another name. When Capt. Myers died the widow did not receive all his property. She was willed a farm on the 3rd Concession Sidny Township about 9 miles from Belleville. John Davy made a will dated May 17,1808 and mentioned all his children in the will. They total 13. When John died he had willed east half of Lot 10 Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada to his son Peter Davy. He willed the West half of Lot 10 to his son John including his gristmill. He willed his son Benjamin 100 acres in Camden Township. He willed his son George 100 acres on the 6th Concession of Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada. He willed his wife and daughters, Eve, Margaret, Sophia and Elizabeth an equal share of his goods and chattels. In his will he did not say he had a son William and did not mention that he expected another child, but it is claimed he had a son William born after his death.

Notes for Catherine Davy: Catherine, daughter of John Davy by his first wife. John married before he left New York, USA to emigrate to Upper Canada after the American Revolutionary War ended. His first wife died before he came to Upper Canada, He had two daughters Eve and Catherine by his first wife and he brought them to Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada, with him. She was not mentioned in her father's will. Perhaps she was dead before he made his will in 1808 or she may have married against his wishes incurring his anger. The Public Archives, Ottawa, Carleton, Ontario, Canada lists Catharine Davy, wife of Solomon Smith as a daughter of John Davy United Empire Loyalist.

They were married by a minister who did not belong to the State English Church so the marriage was not recognized as legal by the government. When John Myers died she was not able to get her share of the property of her husband. It was reported by Dr. E. Ross Laughlin that when Myers died she was willed a farm on the 3rd Concession, Sidney, near Belleville, but donated it to her daughter Sophia who married John Billings

The war of 1812-1814 broke out & he attempted to escape across the ice from Bath to Cape Vincent, New York, USA In doing so he froze his feet and had to be amputated. It is said he was helped later by Masonic brethren to leave Canada & go to U. S. He remained in Schenectady till 1818. Then he opened a general store at Ovid New York, USA where he remained until he moved to Monroe Mich. in 1835. He taught his brother-in-law Benjamin Davy the merchandising business at Ovid. He had a son, name unknown, who died young. I was reading through my Michigan, USA Pioneers Collections book and found an obituary for William Walton Murphy of Hillsdale, Michigan, USA. The book is Vol. XI, printed in 1888. Although I'm not related to this family I thought it might be useful to you. William Walton Murphy Died of pneumonia at Hamburg, Prussia, on Tuesday, June 8, 1886. W. W. Murphy, aged 70 years. Mr. Murphy was born in Ernestown, Canada West, April 3, 1816, removing to Seneca, New York, USA, at an early age. He came to Monroe, Michigan, USA, in 1835, where he entered the United States land office as clerk. While there he began the study of law, and in the fall of 1837 removed to Jonesville, forming a partnership with William T. Howell and opening the first law office in Hillsdale County. He practiced law here until 1861, from 1848 being associated with Hon. W. J. Baxter. He served one term as prosecutor of this, and in 1844 he was elected representative in the Michigan, USA legislature. In 1861 he was appointed by President Lincoln to the position of consul general at Frankfort-on-the-Main, which position he held for nine years, and has since resided there the greater portion of the time, acting as the financial representative of several American railroad companies. The first bonds of the United States placed at Frankfort were sold through his influence. He was a partner in the Exchange Bank of Grosvenor &, and in company of one or two others was the founder of this paper, it first being published by W. W. Murphy & Col, under the name of The Jonesville Telegraph. Since then he has always manifested a warm interest in the Independent, subscribing and paying for five or six copies every year, and in many ways manifesting his interest and good will. He was one of the members of Grace Episcopal Church, this place, at the time of its organization in 1838, was one of the first vestrymen, and has been a vestryman of that church for 39 years, and during 13 years of this time served as warden. He regularly contributed to the support of the church from the time of its organization to the day of his death. For many years prior to the war Mr. Murphy was an active, prominent anti-slavery man, aided at all times the slaves in their efforts to escape from bondage with counsel and with money, volunteering his services as a lawyer whenever occasion required. He was formerly a democrat but joined the free soil party in 1848, and the republican party at its formation. He was prominent in country and state politics, and never failed to attend a political convention when it was possible for him to do so. In 1849 he was married to Ellen Beaumond, of Monroe, who survives him. The news of Mr. Murphy's death is no surprise to his many friends. For many years he has been in failing health, and lately private advices have been very discouraging. He has long been afflicted with a bronchial affection which was undoubtedly the cause of his death. Mr. Murphy, or as he was better know, "Walt", was a man of unusual kindness of heart and disposition. He was constantly doing acts of kindness to the poor and those in trouble, which acts were never divulged by himself. Although absent from Jonesville since 1861 and undoubtedly having formed new and strong ties in his German home, he always wanted to be counted in all charitable matters here, and was ever ready to respond to a proper demand. I checked with the Information Services' staff at the Library and they advised that in 1850 the voters elected 12 Councillors, three from each of the following Wards, Samson, Ketcheson, Baldwin and Coleman and Mayor Davy was elected Mayor by the Members of Council. He served from 1850 to 1854 and died suddenly on March 5, 1860. 	Notes for Elizabeth Adams: Elizabeth died in the Iroquois Theatre fire in Chicago in 1903 The Iroquois Theatre was a mere five weeks old that day in 1903. Located on Randolph between State and Dearborn, it was a magnificent palace of marble and mahogany, a "virtual temple of beauty", and had been advertised as "absolutely fireproof". On the afternoon of December 30th, an audience of 1,900 was present to see Eddie Foy and Annabelle Whitford in the musical comedy "Mr. Blue Beard". The crowd consisted of mostly women and children. As the orchestra played "Let Us Swear by the Pale Moonlight" during the second act, a malfunctioning arc light ignited the muslin drapes. The fire quickly spread to the backdrops hanging above the stage, pieces of which then fell toward the performers. The actors fled; Eddie Foy soon returned and urged the audience to remain calm and in their seats. The crew tried to lower the asbestos curtain between the stage and the audience. Midway down, it stuck - the cheap wooden tracks had caused it to jam. As the stage collapsed, the audience panicked and ran for the twenty-seven exits, only to find most of them locked. Those in front were trampled and crushed against the doors, which opened inwards. By the time firefighters arrived, the auditorium was silent. Five hundred and seventy five were dead; at least 25 more would die from their injuries. The Iroquois fire prompted new safety standards nationwide. Under the new laws, exits had to be clearly marked; be openable from the inside at all times; and open outwards. It had been the worst theatre fire in the history of the United States, and had the highest number of deaths of any fire in Chicago, surpassing even the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. It ranked as the worst disaster of any kind in the history of the city until the overturning of the Eastland in 1915.
