1.	HENRICH^1 DAVY ^1 was born on 06 Mar 1768 in Schenectady, New York, USA. He died on 15 Aug 1832 in Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada. He married MARY. She was born about 1742. There is confusion in some histories between Henry Davy and Henry Davis, UE who settled in Adolphustown. The latter was married to Mary Hoffnail, sister of Sophia who was married to John Davy. The muster roll for Ernestown, 7 Oct 1784, lists Henry Davye, single, gone into the States for seed wheat. On 7 Oct 1789, Henry Davis (sic), soldier in the late 2nd Battalion of Royal Yorkers, petitioned the Land Board of Mecklenberg, Upper Canada as follows, "Henry Davey, United Empire Loyalist humbly prays for lands for his wife and one child born before the year 1789. " By order of Mr. President Russell in Council Nov. 17, 1897, he was granted 100 acres in Burford Township Oxford County) in addition to the first allowance which he had received. This was granted by the Mecklenburgh Land Board and Henry Davy received Lot 36, Con 1 of Camden (which noted that he had received 100 acres in Ernestown). According to John Collins' report of 1790, Henry Davy had 100 acres of Lot 10, Con 1 of Ernestown (John Davy had the other half) and 200 acres of Lot 36, Con 1 of Camden. These remain the same in lists from 1798 and 1800. On 6 October 1798, Henry sold the Camden lot to Gideon Shurtliff. John Davy swore an oath before a J. P. on 4th Oct 1797 that Henry was married and came to this province with his wife and one child before 1789. On 29 Oct 1797 Henry petitioned for land for his wife and child born before 1789. He was recommended for 100 acres as family lands. He received half of Lot 22, Con 2, Ernestown from the Crown on 31 Dec 1798. He sold the property to Isaac Fraser on 28 Feb 1816. Henry was a Captain of the Addington Militia in the War of 1812. An extract from "Officers of the British Forces in Canada During the War of 1812-1815 by H. L. Irving, 1908 "Militia officers doing duty at Kingston under Colonel, the Honourable Richard Cartwright (Lieutenant Henry Davey, 1st Reg't of Addington Militia; - Adjutant Henry Davey}. Also in this same book is the notation "Captain McIntosh and Captain Davey of the Incorporated Militia are appointed each to command a gun-boat, Militia Order, Kingston, 8 June 1812. It is also noted that during the War of 1812 Henry Davey of Ernestown served as Lieutenant in the first Flank Company of the Addington Regiment of Militia then commanded by Col William Johnston between 29 June and 31 December 1812 (NA RG 9 Series I-B-4, Vol 19 pp 1222-3). The certificate of service was signed on 10 Dec 1820. In 1817 Henry petitioned for Lot 31, Con 3 of Ernestown on behalf of his son George. In it, he said that he had joined the 2nd Battalion, KRRNY in 1780 and served 4 years. On 1 Apr 1820, members of the militia petitioned for land in Addington County where they could all settle. Do not have any more info on them. Elizabeth Davey, born 1848, married William Weese, both buried Centerville United Church Cemetery. Don't have any parents for Elizabeth. October 1818 Signed-James Laughlen Copy in Family File On 9-29-1818 his father deeded him lot 28 Ernestown, Lennox Addington, Ontario, Canada consisting of 200 acres. All of the children of James Laughlin were born on this farm. There was a creek running through this property which furnished power for a saw mill built by James and his father. The mill was still standing in 1925. On November 2, 1838, James willed the homestead to his two sons, John and Henry. Elizabeth died in 1824. James then married Mary Davey, daughter of Michael Davey and the first cousin of his first wife, Elizabeth Davey. A piece of the homestead property was donated to the church as a Cemetery, and is now known as Union Lutheran Cemetery. James Laughlin had a family bible which passed to his son Benjamin, then to John Shannon Laughlin, then to Mrs. Fred Laughlin of Napanee Ontario, Canada, then to Harry Scott of Napanee and then to his daughter Mrs. George Templeton who had it in 1954.

Written by Dr. Edgerton Ross Laughlin. He left home when he was a young man and became a gold miner in Alaska. His life after leaving home is almost entirely a mystery to his family. Apparently he mined at Nome, Candle Koyukuk and other places in Alaska. There is a big creek on the south fork of the Koyukuk River named after him. Altogether be spent 30 or more years in Alaska. People in Alaska who knew him said he was a tall man about 6 feet tall and was a great traveler or walker. In 1912 he returned to Odessa, Ontario to visit his brother Zinea but they never heard from him afterwards as he never wrote. I spent considerable effort trying to ascertain what became of William. I advertised in papers in Alaska and USA I heard he left Alaska when he was old and bought a small piece of land at Kennydale, Washington, USA. He built a small cabin for himself and made roller shades. He became ill with cancer of the bowels for which he was operated, but died several months later. It is stated he died at Harborview Hospital, Seattle, Washington, but I could find no record of his death there. Mrs. Morgan, practical nurse, was his housekeeper for a number of years and she was willed his property. She had two sons living in Seattle. His remains were cremated. The Washington State Board of Health said that nearest record to that of our William Hunter is William J. Hunter, 401 Main Street, Vancouver and 1753 Prescott Street, Portland died at Clark County Hospital February 16th 1930, aged 76 years, 2 days. His wife Mary Ella Scott Hunter, his father John Hunter, born Ireland, his mother Mary Hunt born Nova Scotia. Occupation confectioner. He born, March 14th 1854 in Canada. This record does not seem to be correct and is probably not a description of our William Hunter. Mrs. Morgan has a son Lee Morgan, 6217 Flora Avenue, Seattle, King, Washington, USA, who might be able to give information about Bill Hunter who may have been called Bill Hunt at times.

Today, my "cousin" who is helping me to find the McKegg roots etc did a search of the 1820 census and came up with the following entry, which coincidentally fits the profile of John. Perhaps he didn't die but decided to stay lost. I am hoping that someday, I will find out more about him, even though he is no relation. This is what my cousin found: "Ellen,I have been playing around with the 1920 Index on Ancestry. com- looking for a John W. Hunter in the US who was born about 1862. There are 35 John Hunters in the US that were born in Canada. Now, if he didn't die before 1920 and was living in the US, we may have some leads here. I found a John W. Hunter age 57 born in Canada living in Bisbee, Cochise, Arizona in the 1920s (T625_46 ED 1 Page 24A). He had a wife, Minetta, age 47, also born in Canada and they had two daughter- Minetta age 17 born in California and Amy age 15 born in Arizona. the boxes say unknown for when they got married and how long they were married. He was a "miner" and owned his own home. Just interesting tid bit if it is him. It was the only one that seems to fit. There were no John Hunters in Alaska in 1920.
